Negotiation Skills

 The Negotiation Skills course teaches learners the basics of negotiations. Learners will learn about identifying objectives; dealing with the unexpected; researching the people one is negotiating with; establishing helpful negotiation requirements; formulating a plan for agreement; and determining how to deal with different personalities in the work place. 

The course will also cover negotiation styles and how to respond appropriately in certain situations.  In addition, learners will also learn how to gain control in a negotiation by using various negotiation tactics.

This course takes place over a period of four days, for four hours a day. It can be held over 2 full days, but we recommend the 4-day option (Monday – Thursday 9-1), or the 5-day option (Monday - Friday 9-12).

 

Basic Course Outline:

  •  Demonstrate an understanding of the theoretical aspects regarding negotiation. 
  •  Determine the objectives of the negotiation. 
  •  Develop a negotiation strategy. 
  •  Formulate a course of action.

By the end of the course the learner will be able to:

  • Identify and solve problems in which responses display that responsible decisions using critical and creative thinking have been made
  • Understand what good customer service entails
  • Understand customer needs and having the ability to ask appropriate questions in order to fulfil their needs
  • Work effectively with others as a member of a team, group and organisation
  • Organise and manage oneself and one's activities responsibly and effectively
  • Collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate information
  • Communicate effectively using visual, mathematical and/or language skills in the modes of oral and/or written persuasion
  • Analyse power relations and develop strategies to deal with this within the negotiation process 
  • Obtain a comprehensive understanding of problems
  • Analyse the objectives and needs of other parties in order to develop a clear picture of their positions
  • Analyse the advantages and disadvantages of different strategies
  • Choose an appropriate strategy based on the best practices of negotiation
